The Diabetic Diet

A structured, Evidence-Based Approach to Blood Glucose Control

“Have you tried everything, struggling with consistency and not seeing results?

In my practice, I will teach you how to make a practical, sustainable lifestyle change that is outcome-based and suitable for the whole family.”

What is the Right Diet to Treat Diabetes?

Dietary treatment of diabetes is focused on one central goal: Blood glucose control.

To achieve this effectively, three key principles must be considered:

Glycemic Index (GI)

Glycemic Load (GL)

Food Insulin Index (FII)

These principles form the foundation of the structured dietary approach I use in practice.

Glycemic Index (GI)

The Glycemic Index measures how quickly carbohydrates raise blood glucose levels.

Lower GI foods are digested and absorbed more slowly. This results in glucose being released gradually into the booldstream leading to:

  • More stable blood glucose levels
  • Lower insulin demand
  • Improved energy levels
  • Reduced cravings

Glycemic Load (GL)

Glycemic Load takes portion sizes into account.

Even healthy carbohydrates must be consumed in appropriate amounts. By controlling portions, we reduce total glucose impact and improve overall blood glucose stability.

Food Insulin Index (FII)

The Food Insulin Index measures how much insulin is released in response to specific foods.

This is important because constant high insulin release can:

  • Increase insulin resistance
  • raise insulin demand
  • Worsen Type 2 Diabetes over time

By understanding insulin response, not just blood glucose, we can refine dietary choices for better long-term metabolic control.

Why this Approach Works

A large body of research supports the use of lower GI carbohydrates in controlled portions to:

  • Prevent and manage Type 2 Diabetes
  • Improve insulin sensitivity
  • Support weight management
  • Reduce long-term metabolic risk.

With the correct dietary structure, many patients experience:

  • Sustainable energy levels
  • Feeling fuller for longer
  • Fewer cravings
  • Improved concentration
  • Reduced mood swings
  • Gradual, sustainable fat loss

Is This Diet Practical?
